Welcome to The Midnight Gospel Offical Fan Site!

Thank you for visiting

Welcome to the official "The Midnight Gospel" Fan Site!  We will explore and discuss every episode of The Midnight Gospel and also talk about Duncan Trussell Family Hour Podcast and everything else related to Duncan Trussell.

If you are a fan of The Midnight Gospel but are not real familiar with Duncan Trussell, you've come to the right spot!  We'll introduce you to Duncan and his amazing friends, who have recently taken the podcasting world by storm.  One of Duncan's best friends is Joe Rogan, who introduced most of us to Duncan Trussell, so we would be remiss if we didn't also discuss Joe and his take on things.  Thank you for visiting and we hope you take something away from our site that you can use to make your daily life better!  So enough with the introductions, let's get to the real reason we're all here, The Midnight Gospel!

If you are here and don't know what The Midnight Gospel is, don't worry!  We're going to start there; The Midnight Gospel is an animated, adult television series that was created by Pendelton Ward, of Adventure Time Fame and our favorite podcaster, Duncan Trussell.  You can find this amazing series, streaming on Netflix and it's actually the very first animated production from Pendelton Ward, exclusively for Netflix.

The Midnight Gospel takes an actual podcast between Duncan Trussell and a wide variety of guests and turns them into an amazing adventure.  Duncan has described it many times as the idea coming from, "taking the dialogue from Indiana Jones and replacing it with podcast dialogue".  This is a great way of explaining what their vision was when creating this amazing show.  The show is set in a dimension known as the "Chromatic Ribbon", and our hero is a spacecaster named Clancy Gilroy.  Clancy owns a used unlicensed multiverse simulator, which is falling apart and failing due to years of neglect and Clancy being too busy to maintain or even pay attention to the state of the simulator.  Through this multiverse simulator, Clancy travels through infinite worlds who are about to experience their own apocalypse and Clancy wants to interview a few of these planets, residents, for his spacecast, (can I interview you for my spacecast?).

The dialogue (interviews) are taken from earlier episodes of Duncan Trussell's podcast, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour and features many special guests including Jason Louv, Drew Pinsky, Stephen Root, Phil Hendrie, Caitlin Doughty, Trudy Goodman, Michael Marconio, Maria Bamford, Deneen Fendig, David Nichtern, and the great Joey Diaz!

This is a quick look at what The Midnight Gospel is about and if you love the show as much as we do, we are truly HOPING we get more seasons!  I think with the timing of the release, combined with everyone being home already because of COVID 19, The Midnight Gospel was able to reach a much broader audience.  It seemed like just a few months ago, Duncan Trussell was just an obscure comic, who has his own podcast and appears on many other podcasts.  Now he's really becoming much more famous and we are so happy for him, if anyone deserves it, it's Duncan Trussell!  He's just an overall great human and this can be verified by any of his fans who have had the honor of meeting him in person after one of his Comedy shows or other events he regularly attends.  We love Duncan and hope Netflix signs him up for many more seasons of the greatest adult cartoon of my lifetime, The Midnight Gospel!

The Midnight Gospel is an animated adult-cartoon that takes the dialogue from the creator, Duncan Trussell's Podcast, "Duncan Trussell Family Hour".  Duncan Trussell teamed up with Pendelton Ward of Adventure Time fame and created what many are calling the greatest, spiritual-based series on Television.  The story of Midnight Gospel revolves around the main character, Clancy Gilroy who lives in one of an infinite number of dimensions called "The Chromatic Ribbon". In this dimension, simulation farmers use these highly sophisticated and intelligent bio-computers to harvest technology.  While there isn't a continuous storyline, every episode is centered around Clancy Gilroy's travels through different planets found within the simulator, and the sentient beings he encounters inhabiting these worlds are interviewed for his spacecast.  A spacecast is Clancy Gilroy's version of a podcast in this dimension.  Each interview that is featured on The Midnight Gospel is derived from Duncan Trussell's podcast, The Duncan Trussell Family Hour.  Every episode ends with Clancy Gilroy barely escaping the planet before an apocalyptic event destroys it or him.

This is just a brief look at the concept of The Midnight Gospel and there is a whole lot of information and knowledge that can be found in every episode.  We'll be dedicating an article to each episode and discuss what we've taken from them and also discuss theories and ideals others have talked about after watching.

Now let's take a look at the cast and characters that make The Midnight Gospel so amazing!

The main character, as we have mentioned, is Clancy Gilroy.  The Midnight Gospel features a LOT of comedy greats and several stars have either recurring or guest spots on the show.  Let's look at the Recurring characters: Phil Hendrie voices the Universe Simulator and is also credited with (various characters)  Once we locate a list of which other characters, we'll update this article.

Stephen Root is the voice of Bill Taft and is also credit with "various character".

Maria Bamford has a very unique voice and she is the Butt Demon and other characters.

Doug Lussenhop voices Daniel Hoops and also other characters.

Joey Diaz, who is one of Duncan Trussell's' best friends makes his appearance as Steve, Chuck Charles, and several other characters.  Anyone who is a fan of Duncan Trussel, Joey Diaz, Joe Rogan, or the JRE podcast knows that Joey Diaz and Duncan Trussell are very close friends.  I don't think any of us were surprised to see Joey making an appearance.  Some of our personal favorite podcasts are the episodes featuring Duncan Trussell, Joey Diaz, and Joe Rogan.  They make you want to hang out and party with them, every time it seems like they are having such a great time!

Christina Pazsitzky, Known by her stage name, Christina P. voices Bobua and other characters.  Christina is a Canadian-American stand-up comedian and podcaster that is super funny.  If you haven't had the chance to check out here comedy, I would suggest you take a few minutes and listen.

Steve Little voices Captain Bryce and other characters

Johnny Pemberton is the last of the recurring roles on The Midnight Gospel and he voices Cornelius and other characters.

As you can see, this is an amazing lineup and everyone that was a part of this project hit it out of the park!  Now let's take a look at the guest stars.  As excited as we were to see many of these names, several were no surprise but there were a couple that we were blown away by the amazing, memorable performance.  Without further ado, let's jump in and take a look.

Drew Pinksy - Drew appeared in two episodes as the character Little President (Episode 1 and Episode 5) Drew was great and he and Duncan have been on each other's podcast several times and their chemistry is fantastic.

Natasha Leggero - Natasha, who has a dating history with Duncan, appeared as Peggy in Episode 1.

Anne Lamotte - Famed writer Anne appeared as Anne Deer Dog in Episode 2

Raghu Markus - Raghu is a close friend and confidant of Duncan's, he also appeared in Episode 2 as Raghu Deer Dog.

Damien Echols - Another great friend of Duncan Trussell is Damien Echols.  Damien is a fascinating person and if you are unfamiliar with his story, I would suggest going and researching him.  He's had a difficult yet amazing life.  Damien is really into Ceremonial Magic and is another of my favorite guest on Duncan Trussell Family Hour.  Damien played Darryl the fish in Episode 3.

Trudy Goodman - Trudy (with her juicy booty) starred in Episode 4, alongside Pauly Shore, as Trudy the Love Barbarian.

Pauly Shore - Pauly was surprisingly GREAT in this episode.  When I first watched this one, I thought it sounded a lot like Pauly Shore but wasn't sure as I hadn't really heard Duncan talk about him too much.  Sure enough, it was Pauly and he was hilarious!  He played Prince Jam Roll and if you haven't seen this episode, I'd suggest watching it as soon as possible.

Jason Louv - another podcast regular and good friend of Duncan, Jason voiced "Jason" in Episode 5.

Eddie Pepitone - Comedy great, Eddie Pepitone voiced the speaking voice of "Bob" in Episode 5.

Johanna Warren - Voiced Bob's singing voice in Episode 5

David Nichtern - David was in a couple of episodes, he voiced His Divine Grace, God's Scientist in Episode 1, and David in Episode 6.

Dante Pereira-Olsen- Dante is a child actor who is most famous for his role in Joker alongside Joaquin Phoenix.  Dante voiced Shanerreyus in Episode 6.

Will Oldham - Better known as Bonnie "Prince" Billy, voiced Bubble Max in Episode 6.

Caitlin Doughty - Caitlin is an author, blogger, and mortician who voiced Death in episode 7.

Deneen Fendin - Deneen is Duncan's Mom in real life and Clancy's mom on The Midnight Gospel.  She was a psychiatrist before passing on a couple of years ago. Episode 8 seems to be most people's favorite episode and is taken from 2 different podcast where Duncan had her as a guest.  One was when she was first diagnosed with cancer and the second was just shortly before succumbing to the horrible disease.  Deneen really makes you see where Duncan got his wit, charm, and love of knowledge from.  She is insightful, loving, and hilarious.  Warning though, Episode 8 will definitely make you shed a few tears.  Deneen's outlook on death and dying is something we think everyone should listen to at least once in their life.

Ram Dass - Ram Dass appears in Episode 8 as himself.  Duncan has cited Ram Dass of one of his teachers and if you are at all familiar with Duncan Trussell you know that he really looks up to and loves studying Ram Dass.  If you are interested in diving into Ram Dass and his view on life, the afterlife and everything in between, head over to our Book Club page and you'll find all of his work available for purchase.

As you can see, there were a lot of big names involved in the creating of The Midnight Gospel.  I hope this helps you understand the basis of the show and you get a glimpse of the characters and actors who voiced them.  Next week, we will be jumping into each episode individually and discussing it.  I'll try to tackle one episode per week, but I want them to be very thorough and informative so I may spend a little extra time researching and writing them out.
